Most College students will take three A Level subjects in Year 12, with some who have proven themselves permitted to take four subjects, either continuing with these or dropping down to three subjects in Year 13. The reason for this is that the vast majority of tertiary institutions – including top universities such as Cambridge, where we currently have alumni studying – are happy to make offers to students based on their grades in three, full A Levels. However, most universities do look for broader experience and so students are encouraged to take on different involvements and perhaps leadership roles, demonstrating commitments and achievements whether they be via co-curricular activities, an Extended Project Qualification (worth half of an A Level) or otherwise.
The entry requirement is a minimum of a grade 4 in English Language and Maths and a minimum total of 20 points in the 3 subjects a student wishes to study at A-level. Details around these entry requirements are clarified to all applicants of the Sixth Form College.
Subjects on offer at A Level include: Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computing, Drama and Theatre, Design and Technology, Economics, French, Geography, History, Information Technology, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Physics, Religious Studies, English Literature, Psychology and Sociology.
