About Turi

St Andrew’s, Turi, is totally unique in terms of the beauty and space available. The 450 acres is made up of School buildings, boarding houses & gardens, state-of-the-art sports and arts facilities, sports pitches, a riding school and paddocks, forest areas, nature trails, low ropes course, a reservoir and private airstrip.

Wildlife is encouraged at the School and we have the pleasure of sharing our School estate with Duiker, White Tailed Mongoose, Colobus Monkeys, Cape Hare and countless species of birdlife including Hadida Ibis, Crested Crane, Kite, Casqued Hornbill, Bronzed Sunbird, Ring eyed Flycatcher and Augur Buzzard.

As a Round Square School, we are committed to protecting and nurturing the beautiful environment around us. We have a number of student-led environmental groups who work with the Estate Team to manage and address environmental issues. In the past they have looked at: recycling, education on biodiversity, sustainable sources of energy and indigenous forests.

Educational Philosophy

The educational philosophy of St Andrew’s School, Turi, focuses on creating independent learners. We have high academic expectations of the pupils who are given opportunities to lead and achieve in different areas of learning.

We endeavour to send out to the world well-rounded individuals. Students are  expected to put as much effort into their co-curricular activities as they do academics.

Academic excellence, engaging co-curricular programmes, commitment to pastoral care, emphasis on leadership and, above all, Christian living leads to our pupils’ great academic achievement, personal development and independence.

The Community

Having operated in the area for many years, since 1931, we recognize our Corporate Social Responsibility and interdependence with the local community. As a result, we work closely with the local police, local government and community leaders to ensure we have a positive impact on our local area.

Key community service projects include :

  • Guaranteeing a regular supply of clean water to the local village from our water sources.
  • Running a nursery school for our workforce children.
  • Fundraising to support local charities.
  • Sending students from into the community to support key projects.

Security and Visitors

Protected by an electric fence which surrounds the site, a well-trained team of security staff and dogs manage the main gate and patrol the site at night.

This security is in place to ensure the safety of students, staff and visiting parents. We would appreciate your support in complying with our security measures. These include security checks at the gate and registration of your staff who might visit the site. Please notify us 72 hrs in advance of their arrival by emailing estate@turimail.co.ke. (We reserve the right to refuse entry without prior authorization).

Students are also required to provide written approval to exit the School, for their own protection.

For safety reasons, within the School grounds there is a strict speed limit of 15 km/hr and clearly labelled designated parking areas.

Parents are invited to the School on six weekends each year, called VISO weekends. These are important and very enjoyable times for students and parents alike. Please see the Term dates and VISOs page for more information and future dates.
