SATs

Majority of Turi students have traditionally shown a preference for UK University Destinations. However depending on the unique opportunities a country or university offers and their plans beyond university, students are now looking at more options outside the UK e.g USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and South Africa.

For US Universities, students are required to sit for standardised assessments like the SATs. St Andrew’s Senior School, provides all students with academic opportunities needed to prepare them for college and for those looking to study in the US, SAT preparation and testing is required.

To meet these needs, the School is now officially an SAT examination Centre.

What is the SAT

The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardised test widely used for college admissions in the United States and some other countries. It is designed to assess a student’s readiness for college by testing their skills in:

  • Reading (comprehension and analysis of passages)
  • Writing & Language (grammar, punctuation, and clarity)
  • Math (algebra, problem-solving, data analysis, and some advanced math concepts)
  • Optional Essay (some universities require this, but it is now largely phased out)

The test is administered by the College Board and is an important factor in university admissions, alongside GPA, extracurricular activities, and personal essays.

What is an SAT Centre?

An SAT Centre is a designated location where students can sit for the SAT exam. These centres are approved and run under the guidelines of the College Board and must meet specific requirements for exam security, facilities, and accessibility. SAT centres are often located in:

  • International schools
  • Universities and colleges
  • Independent testing centres

Students register for the SAT through the College Board website and select their preferred test centre based on availability.

Turi as SAT Centre

Having the school serve as an SAT Centre provides several benefits:

  1. Convenience for Students – Our students get in-house support and don’t need to travel long distances to take the test. Students from other schools can also benefit.
  2. Academic Alignment & University Guidance – Integrating SAT prep into the college preparation programme which includes guidance counselling as well as provision of resources to help students perform better. Turi students therefore automatically have more opportunities for optimal academic performance and global university preparation.
  3. Cost Savings –Having the SAT in-house reduces costs for students.
  4. Stronger University Links – As an SAT Centre St Andrew’s School, Turi has opportunities to establish closer relationships with top universities through admissions visits, student recruitment, and scholarship opportunities.

The SAT is accepted by all U.S. colleges; it measures what students are learning in high school and what they need to know to succeed in college and career. With SAT Testing, all students have access to this important stepping-stone. Students can choose which colleges, universities, and/or scholarship programs to send their four free score reports.
