VISO Guide

VISOs are a famous Turi tradition. They are the opportunity for parents and extended family to visit the School and partake in some exciting events. These include sporting events, theatrical performances, musicals, chapel services, horse riding displays, Speech Day and The Parade Service (uniformed organisations). It is also a chance to meet teachers and discuss academic and pastoral progress on a 1-2-1 basis. The admissions departments are available to discuss any new entrants and the Turi merchandise is available for purchase at both the Prep and Senior School.

Many parents decide to stay in nearby hotels or in the School campsite. Parents enjoy socializing around the campfire at night or making use of the Rising Phoenix staff club during the evening. Food can be cooked or purchased from the popular ‘Food Court’, a collection of tents offering a range of meals and light refreshments throughout the weekend.

Camping in Turi

Families may camp in the School grounds, near the Staff Club (‘The Rising Phoenix’), on Friday and Saturday nights during a VISO weekend. Facilities include tents, hot showers & toilets, a washing-up area, limited storage for camping equipment (for a small charge) and barbecue facilities. Please confirm your intention to camp by signing the form at the Main Gate and be aware of the camping fee of KSh 3,000 per family per night for up to 5 pitched tents. You will be issued with a ‘Pass’ for entry to the camping area. Please note that students are only allowed at the campsite with the adult who has signed them out of the Boarding House. What is included in the Ksh 3,000 Camping Rate?

  1. Up to 5 pitched tents.
  2. Firewood.
  3. Access to washrooms and showers.
  4. Charging port for electronics.
  5. Security at the camp.

Please note that you will need to organise food for yourself and your family during VISO weekends. There is food available at the Food Court on Saturday and Sunday. The Staff Club and café will open from 7.30am to 10.30pm all weekend selling a range or food and drink. Please note students of the School and other children and not permitted inside the Staff Club after 7pm. However, you may also need to bring your own food for the remainder of the weekend. Tea and coffee and snacks will be served by the school on Saturday morning and afternoon and after chapel on the Sunday.

The club is situated above the campsite next to the Golf Course with stunning views from the verandah.

Mpesa/bank payments only (no cash is accepted).

Please be aware that due to the altitude, nights at Turi can get very cold. Come prepared with warm clothing, umbrellas and wet weather gear. Please be a considerate camper and familiarise yourself with the camping regulations displayed at the campsite and on VISO noticeboards.

Pupils may camp in School (or leave the School grounds) with their family on both Friday and Saturday night providing that all compulsory events are attended. A list, situated in Boarding Houses, must be signed for each child camping out or leaving the grounds on Friday and/or Saturday night and a gate pass must be obtained. Parents may only take their own children out of the grounds or away from Prep School buildings/activities if they have signed their children out of their respective Boarding House, through the Boarding Houseparents.

Student Travel

The School will provide transport to Nakuru in order to save parents the round trip to Turi and ease the congestion experienced at the gate during pickup on VISO Friday. Please note that transport must be booked in advance.

Designated Parking and Vehicle Movement

In view of the high level of activities on site over VISO weekend across both schools, to ensure safety, we will be restricting vehicle movement within the site and prioritising human traffic. In this regard, the designated parking for all visitor vehicles will be at the marked designated area. Kindly corporate with the security personnel on site and adhere to the maximum speed limit of 15 KPH while driving on site.

Student Sign Out/Sign In

If you wish to take your son/daughter off site, as always, please ensure that you send an email to their Houseparent or that you come to collect your child in person. Once this has been done, the Houseparent will issue your son or daughter with a gate pass that will allow a smooth departure from the site.

If you intend leave the School site on two consecutive days, you will need to ask for two gate passes, as the guards will take all gate passes as you leave. Please, therefore, state to the Houseparent if you will be needing one or two passes. Please also be aware that we cannot allow students to leave site with anyone other than you, unless you have contacted us in advance.
