Visit to the United Nations
A group of Y12 mentors and students recently visited the United Nations Headquarters in Nairobi. This was an insightful trip where students and staff learnt more about the structures and mandates of the UN. The group toured the grounds and saw trees planted by dignitaries such as Prof Wangari Maathai and Pope Francis.
The Year 12s also had an opportunity to see the UNEP and UN-HABITAT Headquarters. Their buildings are solar powered and rain water is also harvested for use within the complex.
The group also had the honour of visiting a garden that was planted in memory of the victims of the 1998 US Embassy bomb blast in Nairobi. The garden consists of small trees planted in an arrangement that shows the shape of the UN logo when viewed from the above. The students thoroughly enjoyed this insightful tour and we plan for more students to visit again next year.
