Turi 7’s Rugby & Netball Tournaments
The Annual Turi 7’s event was held on Saturday 15th June. The weather eventually came good and the tournament was able to run unscathed of the rains. The competitions were vast with 14 teams entering the Rugby and 17 teams entering the Netball, which proves once again that the tournaments continue to be a big attraction for schools on our sporting circuit.
The Rugby Tournament final saw both our Turi A team vs our Turi B team, the first time I believe this has ever happened. The B team ran the A team hard and held a half time lead. In the second half though the A team found their rhythm and ran out victorious on the final whistle. The Turi A team also made it to the final of the Netball, and this saw them defeat Peponi A team in the final also.
Both A teams regained their titles that they won the year before. During the tournament we were also able to unveil a new sign on the Middle Field Sports hut in memory of the late Paul Opicha. The hut has been named ‘Opicha’s Hut’. It was therefore a fitting tribute that Team Turi dominated both tournaments.
