Senior School Sports Updates for Easter Term
The Easter term has started in earnest with all the teams already being involved in fixtures and tournaments.
Under 15 Boys Hockey
The team has made an impressive display of great talent on the field. They hosted two schools in home matches so far, putting on a thrilling performance and showing good form and very skillful display in both games. With three more fixtures coming up before the Peponi Tournament in March, the Boys Hockey team is confident that they will lift the champions trophy of the season.
Under 15 Girls Hockey
The Under 15 Girls Hockey squad has begun the season on an equally high note, winning their first match of the season 3-0 and drawing their second game. They have been ardent and consistent in their training and fitness regimens and are showing great progress.
Under 19 Boys Hockey
The Under 19 Boys are also very determined in their training. This paid off with an early away victory against Greensteds on the first weekend back. On the 3rd of February the boys attended the Under 19, 11-a-side tournament at Peponi. Excellent defense and midfield play saw the team into a 3 way play off to reach the semi-finals. Some great keeping and excellent calmness under pressure saw the boys through to the semi-finals against the much vaunted Peponi team.
Turi played exceptionally well to draw against Peponi and took the game into a shoot-out which Turi won 2-1. This set up a great final with Hillcrest. Turi’s defensive effort was excellent and held many attacks from Hillcrest at bay. Through some excellent midfield and forward play, Senior Schools’ Phillip Boyt finished off with an excellent counter attack by burying the ball in the top right of the goal with 3 minutes left to play. The boys held their nerve in the final moments and emerged champions.
Under 19 Girls Hockey
The Under 19 Girls have played in 2 fixtures and a tournament. They won both games 3-2 and 7-0 against Greensteds School and Njoro girls respectively. In the RVA tournament wins against ISK B, Hillcrest, RVA, and a draw against Greensteds saw them finish top of the pool.
Under 17 & Under 19 Boys Basketball
The Boys Basketball team has really played well this term, having started their own individual morning practices last term. They have all shown tremendous passion for the game and team spirit, continuously being manifested in the support, mentorship and encouragement they give to each other. It comes as no surprise therefore that both the Under 19 and Under 17 basketball teams have made convincing wins in all their games against competing schools.
The U17’s most recent win came against St Christopher’s with a final score of 104-37. Other wins include a home win against the French school and Braeburn Gitanga Road. This cohort is looking forward to keeping their unbeaten streak going through the Hillcrest Under 17 Basketball Tournament and the official KAIISSO league.
Under 19 Girls Football
There has been an incredible amount of raw talent in the Senior School Girls Football team this year. The Under 19 Girls have made a promising start to their season. They entered the RVA 11-a-side tournament in the first weekend, with only a few training sessions under their belts, but gave it a very good go. They beat Swedish school in the first match, but unfortunately lost to RVA and West Nairobi School in subsequent matches.
This meant that there was a three way tie to see who would advance into the Semi’s with RVA, and Turi missed out with only a goal’s difference. Both coaches and players are striving hard to make sure they win as many games as possible before the end of the season.
