Safeguarding at St Andrew’s School, Turi

Our Safeguarding Team is dedicated to ensuring pupils at St Andrews feel safe and secure. We make children aware that if they have any worries, they must talk to an adult that they trust. In addition, they also have the following people they can turn to:

Mrs Claire Scott
Designated Safeguarding Lead
Safeguarding trained: Level 3
Mrs Scott was at St Andrew’s School as a pupil. Since then, she has worked in the UK and Kenya. In that time, she has fulfilled many pastoral roles having been a Tutor, House Parent, Chaplain and Assistant Head Pastoral. She is now the Deputy Head Pastoral at the Prep School. Mrs Scott has attended pastoral conferences and has completed online training in order to gain greater insight into utilizing effective pastoral systems. She also teaches Drama and is Head of English. (deputyheadpreppastoral@turimail.co.ke)

Katherine FosterMrs Katy Foster
Safeguarding Lead for Nursery to Year 2
Safeguarding trained: Level 3
Mrs Foster moved to St Andrew’s, Turi in September 2017 as EYFS and KS1 leader. She previously worked in a large Primary school in Devon which was also called St Andrew’s. Her role there was as a Reception teacher in a busy EYFS unit.  The school had a high EAL intake and it actively followed a specialised EAL scheme of work. It also used the successful Thrive programme to ensure the children’s needs were being fully recognised and supported. Many of these ideas have been invaluable to hers current Safeguarding role, where she oversees Safeguarding for EYFS and KS1 with Mrs Scott. (Katherine.Foster@turimail.co.ke)

This year she has undertaken the role of Anti-Bullying Coordinator and has a small team of students to help make the school a safer and more enjoyable place for the children in our care. (Clare.Hirons@turimail.co.ke)
