Mathematics in Year 8

Mathematics in Year 8
This Christmas term started on a high note, with the pupils being introduced to the renowned MyMaths website. It is a fantastic tool that St. Andrew’s Prep School invested in last academic year and is proving very popular among our pupils; it is a facility that will facilitate independent learning and give them another opportunity to maximize their Mathematics learning. Taking our pupils to the ICT room for at least one of their five Mathematics lessons per week has seen the majority be able to take more control of their learning and demonstrate personal responsibility, which coincidentally was our first leadership principle this term.

Pupils have been encouraged in following step by step lessons on MyMaths, but also to self -test their knowledge and understanding, allowing them to stretch themselves further and see the immediate feedback on the site. Each pupil has their own login and this allows them access to the site from anywhere with an internet connection, at any time. This does make it ideal to support the pupils with their learning during the holidays along with revision material which is always provided on the Parent Portal.

It is also an invaluable tool for parents and guardians, and we encourage everyone to be involved in supporting the pupils’ learning. Their progress and results can be viewed on the site. Ask your children to log in and find results, and maybe help with a new module or two. Please take a look, get involved in their learning and do let us know what you think.
