IAPS Cross Country Championships 2018

Saturday the 5th of May 2018 saw eight other IAPS schools make the journey up to St Andrew’s to take part in the annual IAPS Cross-Country Championships held on the beautiful St Andrew’s, Turi estate. Glorious sunshine greeted competitors and spectators on the morning of the event; however the course was still rather muddy following the torrential rain experienced over the last month and this gave all the runners the full cross-country experience.

The Under 9 girls were first to run and the St Andrew’s girls performed really well with two top ten finishes from Philippa Boulle (6th) and Katie Scott (10th). The Under 9 girls category was won by Braeburn. In the Under 9 boys race, our Year two pupils, Daniel Thurlow and Jamie Scott showed great promise for the future by finishing 14th and 22nd respectively in the category won by Kenton. The top placed Under 11 girl for Turi was Tracy Obitre-Gama in a race dominated by The Banda who claimed the top three places. For the Under 11 boys Aaron Draper put in a strong performance to finish 16th with Joshua Mathias running well for 20th Position. For the Under 13 girls it was Magdalena Mfo-Mbana who finished top for Team Turi in 27th position. In the final race of the day Jamie Jean-Louis put in a strong performance to finish as the highest placing Turi runner on the day in 5th position. The Under 13 boys were also the highest finishing team in their category coming 4th overall.

Kenton College won the Under 11 boys, Under 13 girls and Under 13 boys categories and this strong performance saw them crowned overall champions on the day having won four of the six team categories. The St Andrew’s team finished 6th overall out of the nine competing schools but showed plenty of running potential for the future.
