GREASE, the musical
The Senior School’s annual school production this year was the musical GREASE. Grease is one of the coolest musicals to ever grace the West End and Broadway stage.
Featuring a score by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, the musical is named from the 1950s working class youth subculture in the USA who were known as ‘Greasers’. Set in a fictional High School, the show follows a group of boys and girls in their senior year as they deal with all sorts of teenage angst. The show is one of the most performed musicals in the world and was made famous by the 1978 movie starring Olivia Newton John and John Travolta. At the time it closed in 1980, Grease’s 3,388 performance run was the longest in Broadway history.
As Producer and Director, Ms Moodley is so grateful to all those who have helped with the production, especially the amazing cast. We hope that the parents who had a chance to watch all enjoyed the production. The cast consisted of 40 students from Years 9 to Years 13. Though directed by Ms Tammy Moodley with assistance from Mr David Russell as the Musical Director, the production also included 8 Prep School students who did a lovely cheer leading routine under the supervision of Mrs Karen Andrews.
It also featured two very special guest stars (Mr Joel Holliday and Mr Fergus Llewellyn) that appeared as the Teen Angel. The production was a huge success thanks to the great cast and crew. Well done and thanks to everyone involved!
