French School Visits Turi
Here at St Andrew’s Prep School, we believe that learning languages is not simply a classroom exercise. At the heart of learning languages lies communication, and we seek, through various ways, to help our pupils see that learning a language brings a lifetime of rewards, through the ability to communicate with a wider variety of people, and to benefit from those broader cultural experiences.
To that end, St Andrew’s Prep School recently had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from the French School in Nairobi. The guests arrived on Wednesday just in time for them to interact with our Year Six and Year Five pupils. The Prep School Headmaster then hosted a delicious dinner for everyone.
The Year Five and Year Six students then took the French school students through the normal school routine throughout Thursday and Friday. This involved classroom activities during lessons, as well as games and relaxation in the boarding houses. Saturday was full of more exciting activities that included scouting and synchronised swimming. They also enjoyed a pleasant game of netball on Saturday afternoon before leaving for Nairobi on Sunday. This is the first in a series of liaisons with the French School, in order for our pupils to gain confidence in their French speaking, and to transfer their classroom learning into practical use.
