Cricket Season

The cricket season has brought the usual rainy weather with it and some fixtures have unfortunately been affected. However, the Turi cricketers when given the chance to display their skills have tried valiantly and produced some pleasing cricket.

The U9 team have completed two triangular fixtures against local rivals Pembroke and Greensteds. In both of these fixtures they beat Greensteds but lost to Pembroke. With one more triangular to be played, they’ll be looking to beat Pembroke and show how they’ve improved throughout the season.

The U11 team have only been able to complete three fixtures, beating Greensteds convincingly by 40 runs but losing to Cavina and Pembroke. The loss to Cavina was narrow by just 6 runs. Against Pembroke, having batted well to score 100, some poor bowling let the team down and Pembroke reached the target with just two wickets down. The U11’s finished their season with a 6-a-side tournament this past weekend. After a long day’s cricket and five completed matches, Turi finished eighth out of ten teams, managing a victory against Braeburn Mombasa on the day.

The Turi 1st XI have played six matches so far. They have won two, lost two and two were rained off. The two victories came early in the season against Greensteds and Cavina, with the victory against Cavina being a thrilling affair with the Turi boys being required to dig deep in the last five overs in the field in order to defend their total of 113 and eventually winning by 10 runs. The U13 boys will be looking forward now to The Banda 6-a-side tournament to be held in week 11 of term and will want to finish their season in style.
