Busy Start for Turi Sports Pupils
The pupils of St Andrew’s have fully involved themselves on the sporting front at the beginning of this Christmas Term. The main sporting focus this term is on Cricket, Rounders and Athletics; however the students have also been participating in Tennis, Basketball, Swimming and Badminton in their games sessions. A number of fixtures have already been played by both the Cricket and Rounders teams against local rivals Pembroke House and Greensteds. The U11 Rounders started the term well, having won both of their fixtures against Pembroke House and Greensteds in a convincing fashion.
The 1st XI Cricket team have also started positively with victories against Greensteds and Cavina and a rain affected game against Pembroke meant no result. The year 7 and 8 tennis players need a special mention, competing in a School U14 Tennis Tournament organised by Mr Ochieng in week 2 and playing against Year 9 pupils from the Senior School. In both the Boys’ and the Girls’ section, it was the Prep School tennis players that came up trumps, with Sanchia Obi winning the Girls’ section and Nyamba Nchimbi victorious in the Boys’ section.
The highlight of this term so far though has been Sports Day, where the boys and girls of St Andrew’s gave it their all for their respective sporting houses. At the end of the day it was Kenya House that came away with the honours of Sports Day 2016 Champions. We also recently hosted Pembroke House and Greensteds in our Upcountry Athletics Meeting. St Andrew’s pupils landed the most victories, putting in a very encouraging performance ahead of the national events to come.
Looking ahead there are a number of exciting sporting events coming up, including the Kasarani Athletics meeting on the 1st of November and a number of Rounders and Cricket Tournaments for all age groups after half term.
