Big Heart, Big Splashes!

We have dived into the competitive Swimming season! It’s just been four weeks into the term and the Swim Squad has already competed in 3 events within 7 days. Our first lap began at Greensteds International School on Monday 22nd January, where we attended the George Gachiru Memorial Swimming Gala. After some good hard preparation in the pool, the Turi Swim Squad was delighted to test their skills at this maiden gala and posted personal best times with some really great swims.

Our next lap was at the Inter-house competition for VISO Weekend. With a lot of big splashes made and great enthusiasm, the vast majority of the Prep School students swam and enjoyed a wide variety of entertaining and thrilling races that saw Elgon House retain their Championship trophy followed by upcoming champions Ruwenzori House, with Kenya and Kilimanjaro Houses tied in the 3rd spot. It was great to see our House Captains take on leadership roles, select their participants and demonstrate the ability to set schedules, bringing teams to practice and ensuring proper training sessions were happening for their teams.

The following lap came two days after the Inter-house Competition. The Swim Squad was back in the water for the Up-country gala. Although dearly missed, Team Kisumu could not make it due to National political tension on the day. Swimmers were able to improve on their times with a number of personal bests broken. There’s still some fine-tuning going on and the more we stay in the water the better the Swim Squad becomes.

Our next lap is The Banda House Friendly Gala, where we know that all the hard work will help with the end results being an incredible performance at the IAPS Kenya Swimming Trophy Gala that is slated for Saturday, 3 March 2018 at the Peponi Senior School. The IAPS Kenya championship will also see the overall top two athletes in each event represent the IAPS Kenya team at the IAPS UK championships later in June.
